Thank you for exchanging gifts, spending time with family and sharing food here with us at the Royal Oak during the festive season.  For the last 10 years we’ve been donating our Christmas card and postage money to Plan International UK.

Plan International UK is a children’s charity who strive to advance children’s rights and equality all over the world.  They recognise the power and potential of every single child. Often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination.They are taking action to see a world that values children, promotes their rights and ends injustice. Festive Lunches

Holly went walking

A lake in the forest, nestled 200m above Betws-Y-Coed, Llyn Elsi is one of the walks you can embark on straight from our front door (no vehicle access required for this one and kudos for reducing your carbon footprint!)

Llyn Elsi was once two lakes, however in 1914 Lord Ancaster allowed the building of the damn merging the lakes into a reservoir supplying Betws-Y-Coed with drinking water.  From start to finish back to the hotel the walk takes about 2 and a half hours – although I ambled around the lake taking in the Autumn reflections so was a little over schedule! Wales’ Plastic Free Future

With Visit Wales’  Year Of The Sea underway it brings to mind the topic that’s high on everyones agenda at the moment…………. single use plastic.  #PlasticFreeSnowdonia is a campaign pioneered and launched this year by the outdoor adventure company Breese Adventures who are based here in Betws-y-Coed.

The aim is to bring together local tourism businesses who want to see less plastic used (and discarded) in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, and in turn helping them raise awareness with all the guests who stay or visit North Wales the damaging effects that single use plastic has in the environment. Sam’s travels across Vietnam, India, Cambodia and Thailand have introduced her to new flavours and subtle spicy nuances. She first encountered street food in Bangkok on a stopover enroute to Australia. Wild Horses and their Stables…

So after an absence of a year and much feedback from the powers that be (you guys) the Stables Lodge is back!

All the industry research in 2016 pointed to the fact that guests wanted more hotel facilities with their rooms, more room service, more leisure options, more enhanced room features so we set to task upgrading our room packages, adding in service levels and bringing the lodge rooms into the main hotel portfolio… and then what happened was you guys told us you it wasn’t more room facility you wanted but more choice – and you missed the flexibility of our room only rate!

Wales in Love

Love is in the air…… If you’re in Wales on 25 January, then St Dwynwen’s Day, is the date we honour our Welsh patron saint of lovers. It’s our very own version of St Valentine’s Day – we’re celebrating both days here at the Oak (being such old romantics we can’t help it…)
